ATH and MDH only deliver their flame-retardant benefit at high loadings — often 55–65% by weight. At these levels, the non-polar polyolefin matrix struggles to wet and disperse the polar filler, leading to agglomeration, poor surface finish, and a sharp drop in elongation.
A correctly specified PE-g-MAH compatibilizer restores the interface. By reacting with filler surface hydroxyls, it prevents agglomeration and distributes filler uniformly, recovering tensile strength and elongation that would otherwise be lost.
Selecting the right grafting rate and MFI for your specific compound is where the real engineering value lies.
